Alvirne’s Community Garden is becoming a reality! The garden has been plowed, disked, and rototilled. Plots are being staked out, and wood chip walkways are being laid down. The Alvirne Garden is a project of the Alvirne Farm Committee, assisted by Michael Koski of UNH Cooperative Extension. A grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has provided start-up funds for necessities such as fencing, fuel for the tractors, and water tanks so that gardeners can easily fill their watering cans. At least twenty plots will be available this spring. A fee of $25 per plot will help to cover garden expenses. Gardeners will be able to access mulch on a first come, first served basis, and will be expected to provide their own tools and watering cans. Until school is out, gardening will take place before or after school hours. Check out our rules and application.
